Grade 6-8 English A & B
Summer Reading Program 2017
An important part of the Middle Years Program for English is our focus on reading. We encourage free choice reading and discovering books that interest, inspire and challenge you.
Upon returning to UNIS on August 16th you need to have read at least TWO books for the English A or B class you are in.
The purpose of the summer reading program is to support you in your reading skills.
- You will read two books over the summer months.
- One book will be your own choice.
- One book will be from the Recommended Reading List (right). Note that next to each book is a number representing the level of language, called a Lexile measure. Your Lexile reading level is part of your MAP test results. A book in the range of about 100 below and 50 above your own Lexile number is appropriate for you.
- Upon return to school you will be required to give an oral presentation on the books you chose. Your teacher may also assign you a written task.
