Camp Candlewick is an online summer camp focused on reading. The program is suitable for all ages and is free. All UNIS students can register using their personal school login and password.

The camp...

  • Runs from June 11 to August 27. 
  • Features guest appearances by Megan McDonald, Meg Medina, G. Neri, & Cynthia Leitich Smith. 
  • Includes activities to provide connection and enrichment when young readers need it most. 
  • Campers will join virtual cabins by age group. 
  • Kids will enjoy workshops, read-alouds, and other activities. 
  • Newsletters, Pinterest updates, and website materials will help adults support young readers. 

Chicago Public Library - Daily Storytime for Children

Chicago Public Library hosts a daily storytime for children. This story is "The Word Collector" and is such a beautiful book that reminds us of the beauty of words - big words, little words, funny words - in fact ALL words. Click here to follow the daily storytime.

Our Tumblebook collection has over 1100 titles and is perfect for students from Discovery to Grade 5. It includes animated talking picture books, chapter books, videos, non-fiction titles, graphic novels, playlists, and books in French and Spanish. Home Base - a place to explore the books you love!

Scholastic Home Base is a fun, safe, and free online destination where you can create your own avatar, interact with their favorite Scholastic characters, play games, and read books. Home Base is moderated 24/7. 

At any point during the summer, you can download and print a report of your reading progress to share.

Home Base is available on the web at scholastic.com/homebase, and as an app for both Apple and Android devices.
