SDG 13 Global Issues

1. Climate change’s effect on Australia in 2019-2020. The country experienced severe drought and heatwaves, leading to massive bushfires that burned over 8.4 million hectares of land, destroyed more than 1,300 homes, and caused the deaths of 27 people.

2. Bangladesh is highly vulnerable to rising sea levels and increased flooding, as 75% of the country is technically submerged.

3. The Maldives, an island nation in the Indian Ocean, is particularly vulnerable to rising sea levels due to its low-lying geography. The country faces the risk of inundation and coastal erosion, threatening its existence and displacing its population.

What Actions can you take?

1. Compost. Composting food scraps can reduce climate impact while also recycling nutrients.
2. Consume less meat and become vegetarian for one day a week. The meat production industry has a huge impact on the environment.
3. Recycle paper, glass, plastic, metal and old electronics.
