SDG 17 Global Issues

1. Zambia: Zambia has been grappling with a significant debt crisis exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The country’s external debt levels have surged, leading to urgent calls for debt relief and restructuring to ensure long-term sustainability.

 

2. Ethiopia: Ethiopia faces challenges related to both external and domestic debt sustainability. The rising cost of servicing its debts has led to cuts in essential public spending, further complicating its development goals

 

3. Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka's recent economic turmoil has highlighted the risks associated with high levels of foreign debt. The country defaulted on its debts in 2022, leading to significant social unrest and a humanitarian crisis as essential services were disrupted due to lack of funding
